Drinking Irish Tonight
While staying awake, I’ve checked out the stats of this blog and I would like to thank everyone who reads it. I was completely shocked by the numbers. I honestly though no one went to this site, but now that I know more people are reading, I will do my best to make a better effort on updating it and make it a little more interesting. (I know my style of writing on here most of the time is “I did this, ate this, we slept here”. Mostly following my eat, sleep, tour title. I usually just wrote that way because after things happened, I would jot them down on my phone and rather than go into really explicit detail, because I could probably write a novel, I try to keep it extremely brief. I tend to just write things as they happen as well, so in one post, I’ll write what happened, what’s currently happening and then what happened after. So any feedback would be great with what you guys think of this blog!). With that said……
I was right! I stayed awake lying on a hard wood floor in a pitch black room while everyone but Jeff slept. I couldn’t sleep or else I would’ve passed right out, but lying on a hard floor bothers my back. So I downloaded Fruit Ninja, talked to a bunch of friends on facebook, and browsed a couple websites. As 5 o’clock rolled around, the gang woke up and we shipped off to return our rental car.
I slept the whole way to Manchester airport where we found the car rental return office on the top level of the parking garage. As we pile out of the clown car for the last time, it was extremely cold out that I finally had to use the scarf Sara’s mom made me this trip. (Sara’s mom made all of us scarfs……thankies). With all of us finally out of this car, we take the hike to the train station which wasn’t all that far, but when you’re running on little to no sleep, it takes it’s toll when carrying a bunch of heavy shit.
We get all our train reservations in order before the train arrives and relax in the waiting room. I wanted to get rid of my pounds so I bought a magazine to read on the 4 hour train ride to Holyhead. The magazine is very interesting. It’s kinda like Maxim, but with topless women. (So you know, I bought it for the articles, the pics are just perks).
This 4 hour train ride is divided between taking 3 separate trains. We got on our first train around 825am and finally arrived at Holyhead at 1230pm. I took a 10 minute power nap on the last train which felt kinda nice after not getting proper sleep 2 days in a row. But now we play the waiting game for our 2 o’clock ferry to Ireland. The game here is dragging all our luggage to get checked in, and taking a bus to another waiting room to board the ferry. But when we finally board, it is not a ferry we’re taking, it’s a cruise ship. It’s massive and beautiful (that’s what she said). I was thinking of taking a nap but because I enjoy being on the water, I might just soak in the enjoyment of watching the waves from the deck. It may be just me, but the way the wind whips at ya when you’re on a boat is such a great feeling.
I end up heading back to the balcony lounge where I end up taking a 2 hour nap. It felt nice to finally get a little shut eye. Heading past customs and the guys from Chewing on Tinfoil. It was my first time meeting them and thy are a bunch of funny lads. Jeff, John, Tom and I took the ride with Sauce as Sara and Matt jumped in Ben and Anto’s car. Getting stuck in rush hour traffic here in Dublin City is just as shitty as getting stuck on the Southern State parking lot. Another funny thing that was pointed out to me today was there aren’t any stop signs here. We saw one, and that was at a rest stop. Other than that, I never noticed the lack of stop signs, because I never ended up driving the clown car.
Arriving at The Ruby Room, hungry, tired and in dire need for a restroom, we get inside and discover we’re the first ones here. Sara and Matt’s car had not gotten here yet. We stick around for a little until they arrive to go to the chip shop up the road. I ended up getting a chicken burger and cheese chips, and it was delightful to get a real meal in me since yesterday. Snacking on soda and cookies all day can only fulfill for so long. We all relax after our meal and unwind a bit from a hectic day. Some by sleeping, me by writing more lyrics for my album, and writing in this blog. Chewing on Tinfoil go on stage next and instead of napping, I really want to see them. Their cd is really good, and if you haven’t heard it yet, head over to the Quote Unquote Records site to get it for free.
….
So Chewing on Tinfoil was awesome. I’m so happy I didn’t nap, but I’m starting to feel sicker. Even after taking cold/flu meds and vitamin c tablets, I feel like I have allergies with the runny nose and teary eyes, and a quaint cough that won’t go away. It’s annoying. Well, hopefully a shower and great nights sleep will fix it. I got a day of heading to the Jameson factory tomorrow.
…..
I wake up around 11 to my throat feeling like its on fire and my nose stuffed up. I’m hoping today is the last day I feel this horrible from this cold. But I’m going to start feeling better because our lovely hosts are cooking us breakfast and then we’re heading to wander around Dublin and go to the Jameson factory. It’s days like this the tourist in me comes out.
